Remember when your parents had house parties and you and your cousins/friends would to sit at the top of the steps and peek down at them as they sipped “juice” on ice, laughed and danced with each other, and basically enjoyed life? Well I do, and I remember those times fondly. That’s why I was so nostalgic as I edited the photos from my dear friend’s 40th birthday party over the past couple of days. One particular shot was so close to how I remembered those times, I had to stop editing and stare at it for a while. As I studied the emotion and movement of everyone in the photo, I finally figured out why I was so captivated — my friends and I are now the people I used to watch with fascination from the top of the steps. We have officially become them — those grown-ups with the families, jobs, mortgages, and daily stress….and I finally understand why they were so happy.
Happy Birthday Stacee.

Vanessa, you summed it up, we have become our parents, the children, the mortgages, the daily hustle and the ability to still throw down at a party. With one exception, our parents did not have photographers like you and Shauna to capture the moment Perfectly, they talked about it, we watched it, but you made it possible for us to remember it over and over again. Thanks fo much girl, you know I love you like a sis, and this pictures says it all.You are the woman!
You are so right. We have become them. And they were so happy because the could let all of grown up stuff go, even if just for a few hours, and try to recapture what it was like to “us”
This picture is FABULOUS!
Hi Vanessa,
I love this photo, As a senior citizen I can so easily relate to it having throw a house party or two myself, and even watching my parents from the top of the staircase dancing and drinking “Hi-balls”. Your other work you have posted is fabulous.
